Transition Types
pMix includes 11 transition types. Each creates a different visual effect when switching from the preview source to program.
Cut
An instant switch with no animation. The preview source immediately replaces the program source. Duration setting is ignored.
When to use: Fast-paced switching, news-style camera changes, or any time you want a clean instant switch.
Cross Dissolve
A smooth blend where the preview source fades in as the program source fades out. Both sources are visible simultaneously during the transition.
When to use: The most versatile transition — works well between any two sources. Good default choice.
Fade
Fades the program source to a solid color, then fades up on the preview source. Available fade colors:
| Color | Use case |
|---|---|
| Black | Classic “fade to black” — the most common choice |
| White | Bright, dramatic feel |
| Gray | Subtle, neutral |
| Blue | Stylized |
| Red | Dramatic, urgent |
| Green | Stylized |
When to use: Scene changes, segment breaks, opening/closing a show. Fade to black is the standard “end of segment” transition.
Wipe
A straight edge moves across the screen, revealing the preview source behind it. Supports directional control (left, right, up, down).
When to use: Energetic productions, sports, live events.
Iris
A circular reveal that opens from the center (or closes from the edges when reversed).
When to use: Dramatic reveals, spotlight effects.
Star Wipe
A five-pointed star shape reveals the preview source. A fun, distinctive effect.
When to use: Entertainment, kids’ content, or adding a playful touch.
Split
The screen splits to reveal the new source. Supports directional control.
When to use: Side-by-side reveals, dynamic content transitions.
Cover
The preview source slides in over the program source from one direction. Unlike a wipe, the new source physically moves into frame.
When to use: News-style transitions, slide-in effects.
Cross Zoom
A zoom blur effect that zooms into the program source and zooms out to reveal the preview source.
When to use: High-energy transitions, music performances, action content.
Cube
A 3D cube rotation between the two sources. The program source is on one face of the cube, and the preview source is on the adjacent face.
When to use: Tech presentations, modern productions, 3D effects.
Twist
A 3D twist rotation between sources — similar to cube but with a twisting motion.
When to use: Creative productions, stylized content.
