Audio Mixer Overview

pMix includes a full audio mixer that gives you independent control over every source’s audio. The mixer is accessible from the control panel on the right side of the interface.

Mixer layout

Each source slot has its own channel strip with:

  • Volume fader — Drag to adjust the level (0–100%)
  • Mute button — Toggle audio on/off for this source
  • VU meters — Real-time audio levels with smooth attack and slow decay
  • Audio-follow-video (AFV) — Automatically mute/unmute based on whether the source is on program

At the bottom of the mixer:

  • Master volume — Controls the overall output level
  • Local microphone — Toggle the iPad’s built-in microphone
  • Test tone — Generate a test tone for checking audio routing
  • Monitor controls — Listen to program or preview audio locally

Audio routing modes

Each source can be set to one of five routing modes:

Mode Description
Stereo (default) Pass through left and right channels as-is
Left to Mono Route the left channel to both L and R outputs
Right to Mono Route the right channel to both L and R outputs
Sum to Mono Mix L+R into a mono signal on both outputs
Split Independent volume and mute control for left and right channels

Split mode is useful when a single source carries two separate audio feeds (e.g., a camera with an external mic on one channel and ambient audio on the other).

Gain boost

Each source has a gain boost option: 0 dB (off), +6 dB, or +12 dB. Use this when a source’s audio is too quiet even at full volume.

Audio-follow-video (AFV)

When AFV is enabled for a source, its audio is automatically:

  • Unmuted when the source is on program
  • Muted when the source is off program

This is the standard broadcast workflow — only the on-air camera’s audio is heard. You can override AFV by manually unmuting a source.

Master output

The master fader controls the final output level that goes to all destinations — RTMP streams, NDI output, SRT output, and local recording. The master VU meters show the combined audio level of all unmuted sources.
