Your First Live Production
This guide walks you through setting up a simple two-camera production and streaming it live.
Step 1: Connect your sources
- Open pMix on your iPad
- Tap the + button on an empty slot in the source grid
- Choose a source type:
- iPhone Cam — Select an iPhone running the pMix camera app on the same network
- NDI — Select an NDI source discovered on your network
- Media Player — Choose a video or photo from your library
- Repeat for your second source
Both sources should now appear in the source grid with live thumbnails.
Step 2: Preview and switch
- Tap your first source in the grid — it appears in the preview monitor (yellow border)
- Tap the transition button between the monitors — it moves to program (green border)
- Tap your second source — it appears in preview
- Tap the transition button again — a cross dissolve transitions to the new source
You’re now switching between two cameras.
Step 3: Configure your stream
- Open Settings (gear icon)
- Go to Streaming
- Choose a platform (e.g., YouTube)
- Enter your stream key (get this from YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream Key)
- Set your desired resolution and bitrate (1080p at 4500 kbps is a good starting point)
Step 4: Go live
- Tap the Start button in the output controls
- The program output is now being sent to your streaming platform
- Switch between sources as needed during your production
- When finished, tap Stop to end the stream
Tips for your first production
- Test before going live — Do a dry run to make sure all sources are connected and audio levels are good
- Watch audio meters — Make sure your audio levels are peaking in the green/yellow range, not red
- Use preview — Always check a source in preview before transitioning it to program
- Keep it simple — Start with cuts and cross dissolves before exploring more complex transitions
