Streaming to Twitch
Twitch is the leading live streaming platform for gaming, creative content, and live events. pMix includes a built-in Twitch preset.
Getting your stream key
- Go to Twitch Dashboard
- Navigate to Settings → Stream
- Copy your Primary Stream Key
Your stream key is persistent — it doesn’t change between streams unless you reset it.
Configuring pMix
- Open Settings → Streaming
- Select Twitch as the platform
- Paste your stream key
- Review the recommended settings:
| Setting | Recommended value |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 1920x1080 |
| Frame rate | 30 or 60 fps |
| Video codec | H.264 |
| Bitrate | 4500–6000 kbps |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds |
| Audio | AAC, 128 kbps |
Twitch recommends 6000 kbps maximum for most streamers. Twitch Partners may have higher limits.
Going live
- Tap Start in pMix’s output controls
- Your stream appears on your Twitch channel within a few seconds
- Set your stream title, category, and tags in the Twitch Dashboard before going live
Tips
- Twitch requires H.264 — H.265 is not supported
- Keyframe interval must be 2 seconds — Twitch enforces this for transcoding
- Bitrate ceiling — Exceeding 6000 kbps may cause buffering for viewers without transcoding options
- Test with a VOD — Enable “Store past broadcasts” in Twitch settings to review your stream quality after testing
